STS cranes

Global Container Terminals (GCT) is progressing its multi-year terminal enhancement initiative at Deltaport with the delivery of two additional ship-to-shore (STS) cranes. These new cranes are part of a CA$170 million investment in modern cargo handling equipment designed to replace ageing units, strengthen operational safety and boost overall terminal efficiency. The project focuses on upgrading the terminal’s crane fleet with advanced equipment that supports smoother vessel operations, improved cargo throughput, and flexible service offerings for larger container vessels.

• HHIT operates a large deep-water container terminal under Hateco Group at Lach Huyen Port, Hai Phong, Vietnam.
• The Phase 2 expansion plan aims to upgrade terminal infrastructure and handling capacity, enabling HHIT to handle larger vessels and greater cargo volumes.

Background
Port Freeport, operating two large STS (ship-to-shore) cranes supplied by ZPMC, has faced drive-module failures on the cranes’ six drives per unit. Two drives failed in the past year but were kept operational by having spares on hand.
