Hateco HHIT Welcomes Cranes for Phase 2 Major Equipment Boost at HHIT Terminal

Publish Date:
Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) has just added two Super Post-Panamax STS cranes and six electric RTGs to its fleet, marking a key milestone in its Phase 2 expansion and significantly enhancing cargo handling capacity and efficiency.

Background & Context

  • HHIT operates a large deep-water container terminal under Hateco Group at Lach Huyen Port, Hai Phong, Vietnam.
  • The Phase 2 expansion plan aims to upgrade terminal infrastructure and handling capacity, enabling HHIT to handle larger vessels and greater cargo volumes.

What’s New — Phase 2 Equipment Arrival

  • On 2 December 2025, HHIT received a shipment delivering 2 additional Super Post-Panamax STS cranes (with 24-row outreach) and 6 electric RTG cranes (e-RTGs).
  • These units are manufactured and installed by ZPMC — one of the world’s leading port-equipment manufacturers.

Expected Benefits & Impact

  • Increased Handling Capacity — With the new cranes, HHIT boosts its ability to work with ultra-large container vessels, accommodating bigger loads.
  • Improved Efficiency & Reduced Turnaround Times — The modern STS and e-RTG cranes help speed up container loading/unloading and yard operations
  • Enhanced Operational Flexibility — Expanded crane fleet gives the terminal greater flexibility in scheduling and handling multiple vessels or heavy container traffic.
  • Support for Global Shipping Lines & Trade — The upgrade strengthens HHIT’s appeal to international carriers, potentially expanding its connections and service loops.

Strategic Significance

  • The delivery aligns with HHIT’s roadmap to become a “smart, green, and modern port,” integrating advanced port infrastructure and supporting large-scale container traffic.
  • It reinforces Vietnam’s maritime logistics capabilities, particularly in the northern region, supporting export/import growth and global supply-chain integration.
